Trump Announces Boeing’s Role in Next-Generation Fighter Jet Program
Trump announces Boeing's $20 billion contract to develop the next-generation F-47 fighter jet, set to replace the aging F-22 and enhance U.S. air superiority.

US President Donald Trump announced that Boeing won a major contract to develop the Air Force’s next-generation fighter jet, the F-47 on Friday. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said, "After a rigorous and thorough competition between some of America's top aerospace companies, the Air Force is going to be awarding the contract for the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) platform to Boeing."

F-47 Will Replace Aging F-22 Fighter Jets

For over two decades, the F-22 has served as the Air Force’s top stealth fighter. However, the U.S. now plans to replace it with the more advanced F-47. This new jet will introduce cutting-edge technology and superior performance.

In addition, the F-47 will not only have human pilots but will also operate alongside unmanned drones. This feature will give the Air Force greater flexibility in combat.

Although Trump did not reveal the total cost due to security reasons, reports suggest that the first phase of the contract is worth around $20 billion.

Why Is the F-47 Important?

The F-47 is designed to replace the F-22 Raptor, which has been in service since the early 2000s. Unlike its predecessor, the F-47 will bring next-generation capabilities and unmatched adaptability.

Moreover, the aircraft will work with autonomous drones, allowing it to handle a variety of missions. This innovation will make the F-47 one of the most powerful and versatile tools in modern warfare.

First Crewed Sixth-Generation Fighter Jet

According to Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David W. Allvin, the F-47 is the most advanced and lethal fighter ever built. He emphasized that the aircraft will outmaneuver, outpace, and outperform any enemy.

Additionally, he stated, “The F-47 is the world’s first crewed sixth-generation fighter.” The aircraft is designed to dominate even the most dangerous battle environments.

Furthermore, the U.S. Air Force confirmed that the F-47 will offer a longer range, improved stealth, and better durability than current fifth-generation jets. It will also be more cost-effective and adaptable to future threats.

Strengthening U.S. Air Superiority

As global threats continue to rise, the U.S. Air Force remains focused on maintaining air dominance.

Earlier this month, Major General Joseph Kunkel stressed the importance of air superiority. He noted that after pausing the NGAD program last year, the Air Force conducted a study. The study confirmed that “not only in the past, not only in the present, but in the future, air superiority matters.”

In addition, he stated that no alternative exists to the NGAD platform for securing U.S. air dominance in a rapidly changing world.

NGAD Program Resumes After Budget Concerns

Previously, the NGAD program was paused in 2024 due to cost concerns. Since then, the Trump administration has made government spending a top priority.

To address budget challenges, Trump assigned billionaire Elon Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). His role is to cut excessive costs in defense projects.

Now, with Boeing leading the project, the U.S. military is moving forward with the F-47. This jet will strengthen the country’s air power and secure its future in aerial combat.
