Russia launched a massive drone attack on Kyiv overnight, injuring at least seven people and sparking fires across the city, Ukrainian officials said on Sunday.
Mayor Confirms Damage
Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the attack as “a massive enemy drone attack on Kyiv” in a Telegram post. So far, seven people have been injured, and one has been hospitalized. Meanwhile, emergency crews worked quickly to contain the damage.
Fires Break Out Across the City
As a result of the attack, fires broke out in several districts. According to Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, debris from destroyed drones ignited fires in high-rise buildings. Specifically, the Podil district and Dniprovskyi district, located across the Dnipro River, were affected.
Air Defenses Respond Swiftly
Although the full scale of the attack was unclear, air defense systems sprang into action. Reuters journalists on the ground reported hearing several loud explosions, suggesting that defenses were intercepting incoming drones.
More Injuries Outside Kyiv
In addition to the damage in Kyiv, nearby regions also suffered. Regional governor Mykola Kalashnik confirmed that two more people were injured. Furthermore, several houses were damaged by falling debris.
Russia Remains Silent

Russia has not commented on the attack. Both nations continue to deny targeting civilians, even though the war has been ongoing for three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
U.S. Pushes for Ceasefire
Meanwhile, the United States is actively pushing for a peace deal. It hopes to negotiate a partial ceasefire that would prevent further strikes on energy infrastructure. However, both sides continue to report attacks.
Air Raid Alerts Last for Hours
Throughout the night, Kyiv and surrounding regions remained on high alert. According to Ukraine’s Air Force, air raid sirens lasted for over five hours, starting late Saturday.
