IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians Thrash LSG by 54 Runs, Will Jacks Shines with All-Round Performance
Mumbai Indians crushed Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs, powered by brilliant knocks from Rickelton and Suryakumar and a deadly bowling show from Bumrah and Boult.

Mumbai Indians (MI) crushed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs in the 45th match of IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With blazing half-centuries from Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai Indians set a huge target for LSG. At one stage, when LSG looked like giving a fight to MI, Bumrah and Trent Boult dismantled the batting line-up of Lucknow Super Giants in the death overs and sealed the victory for Mumbai Indians. Will Jacks was awarded the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.

MI's Strong Batting Display

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won the toss, and captain Rishabh Pant chose to bowl first. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma opened for Mumbai Indians (MI). Mayank Yadav bowled the first over, and Rickelton got off the mark with a four. The over produced just 6 runs.

In the second over, Prince Yadav took the ball, and Rickelton dominated. He hit a six and two boundaries. Rohit Sharma then welcomed Mayank Yadav with back-to-back sixes in the third over. However, he was dismissed for 12 runs off 5 balls. Will Jacks replaced him, and after 3 overs, MI were at 33/1.

Digvesh Singh bowled the 4th over, giving away 6 runs. Ravi Bishnoi bowled the 5th, and Rickelton hit a six. In the 6th over, Rickelton took charge, hitting two sixes and a four off Digvesh Singh. After 6 overs, MI were 64/1. Rickelton was at 49 off 24 balls, with 5 fours and 4 sixes, while Will Jacks was at 3 runs off 7 balls.

Rickelton Reaches His Half-Century

Ravi Bishnoi bowled the 7th over. Rickelton took a single on the first ball to reach his half-century off 25 balls. He also got a boundary on the 5th ball. The over produced 7 runs. In the 8th over, Will Jacks hit two boundaries off Avesh Khan, and MI's partnership reached 50 runs.

Rickelton was dismissed by Digvesh Singh for 58 runs off 32 balls in the 9th over. Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) joined Jacks. He greeted Mayank Yadav with a boundary, and Jacks followed with a boundary and a six. MI crossed 100 runs after 10 overs, sitting at 105/2, with Jacks on 27 off 18 balls and SKY on 6 off 5 balls.

MI Lose Key Wickets

Ravi Bishnoi bowled the 11th over, and SKY hit a six. 10 runs came from the over. Prince Yadav took the wicket of Jacks for 29 runs off 21 balls in the 12th over. Tilak Varma joined the crease and got off the mark with a boundary. MI were at 121/3 after 12 overs.

In the 13th over, SKY hit three boundaries off Bishnoi, bringing up 16 runs. However, Bishnoi took the wicket of Tilak Varma on the last ball, and MI were at 137/4 after 13 overs. Hardik Pandya came in to bat.

MI Push for Big Total

In the 14th over, SKY hit a boundary off Avesh Khan, and 8 runs came from it. In the 15th over, SKY hit a six off Prince Yadav, taking MI to 150 runs. 12 runs came from the over, and MI were at 157/4 after 15 overs.

Mayank Yadav dismissed Hardik Pandya for 5 runs off 7 balls in the 16th over. Naman Dhir came in and got off the mark with a boundary. MI were at 162/5 after 16 overs. Naman hit two back-to-back boundaries in the 17th over, adding 12 runs.

In the 18th over, SKY hit a six off Avesh Khan to reach his half-century but was dismissed on the next ball for 54 runs off 28 balls. Corbin Bosch replaced him at the crease. MI were at 183/6 after 18 overs.

Bosch Powers MI to 215

In the 19th over, Corbin Bosch dominated Digvesh Singh, hitting a boundary and two sixes. MI crossed 200 runs. In the final over, Avesh Khan dismissed Bosch for 20 runs off 10 balls. Deepak Chahar walked in and got off the mark with a single. Naman Dhir finished MI's innings with a six, as MI posted 215/7.

LSG's Run Chase Begins

Needing 216 runs to win, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh opened for LSG. Trent Boult bowled the first over, and Markram hit back-to-back boundaries. 9 runs came from the over. Deepak Chahar bowled the 2nd over, and Marsh welcomed him with a six. 9 runs came from that over as well.

Bumrah was introduced early in the 3rd over, and he dismissed Markram for 9 runs off 11 balls. Nicolas Pooran joined Marsh, and after 3 overs, LSG were at 20/1.

Pooran and Marsh Fight Back

Pooran and Marsh hit boundaries in the 4th over by Chahar. Marsh then hit a six off Bumrah in the 5th over. 11 runs came from that over. Pooran took control in the 6th over, hitting three consecutive sixes off Chahar. After 6 overs, LSG were 60/1. Marsh was on 21 off 12 balls, and Pooran was on 27 off 14 balls.

LSG Lose Key Wickets

In the 7th over, Will Jacks dismissed Pooran for 27 runs. Rishabh Pant came in and hit a boundary but was dismissed on the next ball. Ayush Badoni joined the crease and got off the mark with a single. LSG were at 67/3 after 7 overs.

Karn Sharma bowled the 8th over, giving away 6 runs. Pandya bowled the 9th over, and Badoni hit two boundaries. 10 runs came from the over. Badoni then hit two sixes off Karn Sharma in the 10th over. LSG were at 103/3 after 10 overs.

LSG Collapse

Trent Boult dismissed Marsh for 34 runs off 24 balls in the 12th over. David Miller joined the crease, but only 3 runs and a wicket came in the over. LSG were at 112/4. In the 13th over, Jacks gave away 6 runs, and Miller hit two boundaries. LSG were at 123/4. In the 14th over, Miller hit a boundary off Bosch. Prince Yadav took the ball in the 15th over, and Boult dismissed Ayush Badoni for 26 runs off 12 balls. LSG were at 140/5 after 15 overs.

In the 16th over, Bumrah dismissed David Miller for 24 runs off 16 balls. Ravi Bishnoi came to the crease next. Bumrah then dismissed Abdul Samad and Avesh Khan on consecutive deliveries. LSG were at 142/8 after the over. Prince Yadav walked in next and faced Corbin Bosch in the 17th over. Bishnoi hit a six. In the 18th over, Bumrah dismissed Bishnoi, who hit a six. LSG were at 155/9.

In the 19th over, Bosch dismissed Bishnoi for 13 runs. Digvesh Singh came in as the last batter. In the 20th over, Boult dismissed Digvesh Singh, and LSG were all out for 161, losing the match by 54 runs. It was a comprehensive victory for Mumbai Indians.

Rohit Sharma got out early after a flying start. Ryan Rickelton continued to score freely, and Will Jacks supported him well. Then came Suryakumar Yadav, who also played a blazing knock. These innings provided stability and kept the scoreboard moving at a good run rate. Corbin Bosch played a short but impactful innings, helping Mumbai Indians cross the 200-run mark. Naman Dhir also played a good knock and helped Mumbai post a strong total.
Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh gave a flying start to LSG. Bumrah provided an early breakthrough when the batsmen were looking in control. Rishabh Pant failed again, which is a serious concern for LSG. He needs to work on his batting issues as soon as possible. Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni tried but couldn’t get enough runs. Trent Boult provided another crucial breakthrough, and then Bumrah bowled the 16th over, taking 3 wickets and destroying all hopes of Lucknow Super Giants.
