Gill Breaks Silence on Umpire Spat After GT’s Clinical Win

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill opened up about a tense moment with the umpires. This happened during their exciting match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday in Ahmedabad.

Argument Over DRS Call

During the 14th over, Sunrisers were chasing a massive target of 224 runs. Abhishek Sharma got hit on the boot. Immediately, Gill and his teammates appealed for an LBW. However, the umpire showed no interest. As a result, GT went for a DRS review.

The review, though, didn’t show where the ball had pitched. It only showed the impact and the ball hitting the stumps. This seemed to frustrate Gill. He then started a heated discussion with the umpires. His reactions were animated. Surprisingly, Abhishek Sharma stepped in to calm him down. Eventually, things cooled off and the match resumed.

After the game, Gill spoke about the incident. "There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire. Sometimes there are so many emotions involved, and as you give your 110 per cent, there are bound to be some emotions."

GT Batters Set the Tone

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans dominated with the bat. They posted a huge total of 224/6. From the start, their top order showed great intent. Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler focused on rotating the strike. They made sure not to waste deliveries.

As a result, GT only played 22 dot balls in the innings — one of the lowest in IPL history.

Gill later explained that it was not part of a fixed plan. "Definitely didn't plan that (on playing just 22 dot balls in 20 overs). The only conversation was let's try to play the game we have been playing so far. The black soil pitch is not easy to hit sixes, but the way Sai, Jos, and I play, I think we have an understanding of how to keep the scoreboard ticking."

He also said they trust each other’s game. "I don't think we have ever had that conversation where one of us has to be there. We are all eager and hungry for runs and do what is best for the team."

Another Strong Home Win for GT

Furthermore, Gujarat Titans continued their success at home by defending another 200-plus total. Sudharsan gave them a quick start with 48 runs. Gill added 76, while Buttler hammered 64 from 37 balls.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled in the chase. Though they started with intent, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Gujarat’s bowlers worked in unison and applied pressure throughout.

In the end, SRH lost by 38 runs. This defeat pushed them closer to elimination.
