YouTuber-turned-actor Apoorva Mukhija, better known online as The Rebel Kid, is slowly rebuilding her public image. She faced heavy criticism earlier this year over her involvement in the India’s Got Latent controversy. Although she has resumed her online presence, she has decided not to attend one of the biggest global events—the Cannes Film Festival.
Apoorva Skips Cannes Appearance
On Monday, Apoorva answered questions from fans on Instagram. During the Q&A session, someone asked followers which content creator they wanted to see at the Cannes red carpet. One user mentioned Apoorva’s name.
Apoorva shared the post on her story and gave a witty yet revealing reply. She wrote,
“Gaali nahi khani (Don’t want to get abused)”.
Earlier, there were speculations that Apoorva would walk the red carpet at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. However, after her Instagram reply, it’s unclear if she was joking or if she has seriously backed out of the appearance.
Cannes 2025 Highlights
This year, the 78th Cannes Film Festival will run from May 13 to May 24, 2025. The festival has implemented a new rule for red carpet appearances. For reasons of "decency," they have banned outfits that show too much skin or promote nudity.
Meanwhile, several Indian celebrities will be attending the event. These include Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai, Sharmila Tagore, Anupam Kher, and Ishaan Khatter. They will represent India at the prestigious global stage.
The Controversy That Shook Her Career
Back in January, Apoorva appeared in an episode of India’s Got Latent, a YouTube show that quickly drew backlash. In that episode, YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made shocking comments about sex and parents. While Ranveer received most of the criticism, a video clip featuring Apoorva also went viral and received strong negative reactions.
Comedian Samay Raina, the show's creator, responded to the outrage by deleting all episodes. Nevertheless, the damage had already been done. Multiple FIRs were filed against Samay, Ranveer, Apoorva, and others associated with the show.
Apoorva’s Return to Social Media
After the controversy, Apoorva stayed away from social media for a while. She took time off to let things cool down. However, she has now returned. Currently, she posts content regularly and is reconnecting with her followers.
Despite her comeback, she seems to be taking cautious steps. Skipping Cannes could be one of them.
