IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians Storm into Playoffs as Delhi Capitals Suffer Heavy Defeat at Wankhede
Mumbai Indians crushed Delhi Capitals by 59 runs to seal a playoff spot and knock DC out of IPL 2025.

Mumbai Indians (MI) outclassed Delhi Capitals (DC) by 59 runs in the 63rd match of IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Despite early blows, MI posted 180/5 in 20 overs, thanks to a blazing knock by Suryakumar Yadav and late fireworks from Naman Dhir. While chasing, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Will Jacks gave Delhi early setbacks, and their middle order was dismantled by Mitchell Santner (3/11 in 4 overs) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/12 in 3.2 overs). Delhi Capitals were bowled out for 121.

With this win, Delhi Capitals were knocked out of the tournament, and Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoffs.

Early Blows to Mumbai Indians

Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton opened for Mumbai Indians. Mukesh Kumar began the attack. Rohit hit a boundary, but only 7 runs came from the first over.

In the second over, Rickelton smashed back-to-back sixes off Chameera. Mustafizur Rahman struck in the third over, removing Rohit for 5. Will Jacks walked in next and opened his account with a single. After three overs, MI reached 25/1.

MI Steady After Early Blows

Vipraj Nigam bowled the fourth. Jacks hit two boundaries. In the fifth over, Jacks continued his charge with a four and a six off Mustafizur. But Mukesh Kumar got him in the sixth over. He scored 21 from 13. Suryakumar Yadav joined Rickelton and started with a double. MI reached 54/2 after the powerplay.

Rickelton was batting on 22 (15 balls, 2 sixes), while SKY had 6 runs (3 balls, 1 four).

Kuldeep Strikes; MI Slow Down

Kuldeep Yadav got Rickelton in the 7th over. He scored 25 off 18. Tilak Varma came in and started with a single. SKY ended the over with a boundary. MI moved to 63/3.

Vipraj and Kuldeep kept things tight in the next few overs. Tilak hit a boundary in the 10th over. After 10 overs, MI stood at 80/3. SKY was on 15 (12 balls), and Tilak on 12 (12 balls).

MI Cross 100 But Lose Tilak

Chameera bowled the 11th over. Tilak hit a six. Then, Nigam and Kuldeep bowled tight overs. MI reached 99/3 after 13 overs. In the 14th over, SKY brought up the 100 and hit a six. He and Tilak also completed a 50-run stand.

Mukesh returned for the 15th over and dismissed Tilak for 27. Hardik Pandya joined and got off the mark. MI were 114/4 after 15 overs.

SKY Anchors; MI Finish Strong

Kuldeep bowled a tight 16th over. In the 17th over, Chameera dismissed Pandya for 3. Naman Dhir walked in and got going with a double. MI were 126/5.

Mustafizur kept it tight in the 18th over. Then SKY exploded in the 19th over with a six to bring up his half-century. Naman Dhir added a boundary and two sixes. MI added 27 runs in that over. In the final over, SKY hammered two sixes and two fours, completing a 50-run partnership with Dhir.

MI finished at 180/5. SKY remained unbeaten on 73 from 43 balls. Dhir scored an unbeaten 24 off just 8.

DC Lose Early Wickets

Chasing 181, KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis opened for DC. Trent Boult started for MI. Both batters hit boundaries in the first over. But Deepak Chahar removed Faf for 6 in the second. DC were 14/1.

Boult dismissed KL Rahul in the third over for 11. Sameer Rizvi came in. DC were 20/2.

MI Bowlers Keep Chipping Away

Chahar bowled a tidy fourth over. Will Jacks dismissed Porel in the fifth over. Vipraj Nigam came in and struck three quick boundaries. DC moved to 43/3 after five.

Santner bowled the sixth over. Nigam hit a four. After six overs, DC were 49/3. Nigam was on 20 off 8. Rizvi had 5 off 7.

Bumrah, Santner Tighten Grip

Bumrah bowled the seventh over. Rizvi hit a boundary, but only 5 came from the over. Santner dismissed Nigam in the 8th over. He scored 20. DC were 55/4.

Stubbs joined Rizvi. Karn Sharma bowled the ninth over. Rizvi ended it with a six. Bumrah returned in the 10th over and removed Stubbs for 2. DC were in trouble at 66/5.

DC Fight But MI Dominate

Ashutosh and Rizvi tried to rebuild. Karn's 11th over went for 16. But Santner bowled a tight 12th over. Chahar gave two boundaries in the 13th over. DC reached 95/5.

Boult bowled the 14th over. Rizvi hit a boundary and brought up 100 for DC. Santner returned in the 15th over and struck twice—Rizvi (39) and Ashutosh (18) fell. DC slipped to 105/7.

Bumrah Wraps It Up

Bumrah removed Madhav Tiwari in the 16th. DC were 110/8. Boult kept things quiet in the 17th over. Karn got Kuldeep in the 18th over. DC were 120/9. Bumrah ended it in the 19th over, dismissing Mustafizur. DC were bowled out for 121 in 18.2 overs.

Mumbai Indians won by 59 runs and secured their place in the playoffs.

Mumbai Indians once again proved why they are a formidable side, with strong depth in batting and a dangerous bowling attack. Suryakumar Yadav’s blazing knock, supported by Naman Dhir’s explosive 24 off just 8 balls, powered them to a respectable total. When Delhi Capitals began their chase, Mumbai’s bowlers stepped up and wreaked havoc, completely dismantling the opposition's batting lineup. Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner were especially brilliant with the ball. Though Sameer Rizvi tried to put up a fight, he lacked support at the other end.
