Russia carried out a major airstrike on Ukraine early Tuesday. It targeted Kyiv and the southern port city of Odesa with waves of drones and missiles. As a result, three people died and 13 were injured.
Zelenskyy Describes It as One of the Biggest
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it “one of the biggest” attacks on Kyiv since the war began three years ago. According to him, Russian forces launched 315 drones—mostly Iranian-made Shaheds—and seven missiles.
Moreover, he criticized international efforts to end the war. “Russian missile and Shahed strikes are louder than the efforts of the United States and others to push for peace,” he said. He also urged the West to take stronger action.
Odesa and Kyiv Suffer Heavy Damage
Meanwhile, in Odesa, a maternity hospital and several homes were hit. Two people died and nine others were hurt. In addition, another person died in Kyiv’s Obolonskyi district. Residents across the city heard explosions and the buzzing of drones for hours.
Attack Follows Record Drone Strike
Notably, this attack came just after Russia launched nearly 500 drones the previous night. That marked the largest drone assault of the war so far.
Despite recent peace talks in Istanbul, no real progress was made. Both sides continue to stick to their positions.
Prisoner Exchange Brings Some Relief
However, there was one positive development. Both countries exchanged prisoners of war on Monday and Tuesday.
Ukraine received several of its soldiers back, including wounded troops captured years ago during the battle for Mariupol. Many of them suffer from serious health issues.
Russia’s Defense Ministry also confirmed it welcomed back its own troops.
Families Reunite, But Many Still Wait
Ukrainian families reacted with mixed emotions. While some felt relief, others are still waiting for news about missing loved ones.
Amina Ivanchenko, who reunited with her husband after 18 months in captivity, said, “My struggle was much easier thanks to them. Our country will definitely bring everyone back.”
