Namit Malhotra Shares His Lifelong Dream Behind Ramayana

During the grand launch event, producer Namit Malhotra spoke passionately about how the idea for Ramayana came to life. As someone who grew up in a film family and worked in global cinema, he said this project held deep personal meaning.

“I started in this industry 30 years ago, growing up in a film family, setting up a little studio in a garage in Mumbai and turning it into a true global entity and watching some of the greatest filmmakers and studios across the world,” he said.

Malhotra called Ramayana the most special project of his life. “I'm here today to talk to you about something even more special, something that's been my dream my entire life. It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the world of Ramayana.”

Honoring Indian Culture on a Global Stage

Malhotra stressed the importance of Ramayana as more than just a story. He described it as a reflection of Indian values, beliefs, and history. Through this film, he aims to present India’s cultural heritage to audiences across the globe. “That's the story of our culture, our truth, our history, our growing up, the way we've all learned a lot about each other, how humanity and how our thought process and values have shaped the world and continue to do so.”

He emphasized how proud everyone should feel about this project: “All of us should take tremendous pride and feel great joy that we are able to bring this great story and great epic to the world in the grandest form and manner possible.”

Nitesh Tiwari Leads the Vision with Unique Storytelling

Malhotra gave full credit to director Nitesh Tiwari, who earlier helmed acclaimed films like Dangal and Chhichhore. He called Tiwari’s vision for Ramayana both distinctive and outstanding. “My journey of bringing Ramayana and the world of Ramayana to all of you could not have happened without the one and only Nitesh Tiwari by my side as the director. His vision and storytelling for Ramayana is not only unique but it is exemplary.”

Malhotra also clarified that what the audience saw was just the beginning. “What we're presenting today is the foundation of where Ramayana comes from. The trailer and the teaser will happen subsequently which we will joyously come to you again and present at the right time.”

A Grand Cast Brings Epic Characters to Life

The announcement video also revealed key casting details, which thrilled fans. Each actor was carefully selected to portray legendary characters from the Hindu epic.

  • Ranbir Kapoor will play Lord Ram, bringing calm strength and divine authority.

  • Yash, known for his role in KGF, takes on the intense and fierce role of Ravana.

  • Sai Pallavi, praised for her natural performances, will portray Goddess Sita with grace and depth.

  • Ravie Dubey is cast as Laxman, Ram’s loyal brother.

  • Sunny Deol, famous for his powerful screen presence, will play Lord Hanuman, symbolizing devotion and strength.

This casting suggests that the makers aim to deliver a powerful and emotional retelling of the epic, blending star power with character authenticity.

What Sets Ramayana Apart

Unlike previous adaptations, this Ramayana is being created with a huge international vision. The film uses state-of-the-art technology and high-end VFX that rival Hollywood standards. With Malhotra’s global production expertise—his company DNEG has worked on films like Inception and Dune—audiences can expect world-class visual storytelling.

A Milestone Moment for Indian Cinema

The title announcement marks the beginning of what could become one of the biggest Indian cinematic projects ever. The film promises to be more than just a mythological retelling. It aims to connect ancient wisdom with modern storytelling, both visually and emotionally. For now, fans eagerly await the teaser and trailer releases in the coming months.
