Lufthansa CEO’s Wife Leaves Italy After Fatal Road Accident
Vivian Spohr, wife of Lufthansa's CEO, returned to Germany after allegedly causing a fatal accident in Sardinia, as Italian authorities continue their investigation.

Vivian Spohr, wife of Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, has left Italy and returned to Germany after a tragic car crash in Sardinia. According to reports, the incident led to the death of a 24-year-old woman named Gaia Costa. She was hit by a BMW SUV, which police say was driven by Vivian.

The accident occurred last Tuesday in Porto Cervo, a popular seaside resort. Gaia was using a pedestrian crosswalk when the vehicle struck her. Despite efforts by paramedics who tried to save her for 20 minutes, she died due to serious head injuries.

Spohr Leaves Italy, Offers Cooperation

Although the crash triggered a legal probe, Vivian was not required by law to remain in Sardinia. Therefore, she left the country and returned to Germany. Her attorney, Angelo Merlini, said in a statement, “Vivian Spohr, who was involved in the tragic death, expresses her dismay and deep regret over this very serious accident.” He added, “She is at home in Germany but is ready to provide all the information requested by investigators as soon as the Prosecutor's Office deems it appropriate.”

Conflicting Reports on the Crash

Initially, several news outlets claimed that Vivian fled the scene and only stopped after bystanders flagged her down. However, her lawyer rejected those reports. According to him, Vivian did not try to escape. Instead, she stopped her car, got out, and attempted to help Gaia. “Contrary to what was previously reported, Vivian Spohr stopped after the accident and provided first aid to the girl,” Merlini told The Sun.

He further explained that Vivian fainted after her attempt to revive the woman failed. Merlini also stated that Vivian had been driving at a very low speed when the crash happened.

Investigation Still Underway

Meanwhile, Italian authorities are continuing their investigation into the case. Although Vivian said she lost her passport and visa in the forest near the crash site, police later recovered those documents.

Now, the focus shifts to the legal proceedings. Officials have not yet announced whether they will file formal charges. However, the investigation remains active, and Vivian Spohr has pledged full cooperation.
