Who was Shane D Tamura? Named in Deadly NYC Rampage at Blackstone Building
A 27-year-old former football player from Las Vegas, Shane Tamura, opened fire inside a Manhattan building, killing six including himself, possibly targeting the NFL headquarters out of personal frustration.

A 27-year-old man from Las Vegas, named Shane Devon Tamura, has been identified as the suspected gunman behind a mass shooting in New York City on Monday. According to the latest reports, six people, including a New York Police Department officer and the shooter himself, lost their lives in the attack.

Shooter Opened Fire at Prominent Manhattan Building

Tamura reportedly stormed into 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. This building is the headquarters of investment giant Blackstone and the NFL. According to CNN, the shooting began inside the lobby around 6:30 pm (US time), when nearly 30 people were present. Tamura used an assault rifle equipped with a silencer to carry out the attack. Surveillance images released later showed him wearing sunglasses and carrying a rifle while walking through the building. Police believe he entered the premises alone.

Police Say Shooter Took His Own Life

Initial updates said that the shooter had been “neutralised.” Police Commissioner Jessica S Tisch posted on X, “At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralised.”

However, later reports clarified that Tamura died by suicide. He was found dead on the 33rd floor of the building, and authorities believe he shot himself. A vehicle at the scene with Nevada license plates was also registered to Tamura, according to the New York Post.

What We Know About Shane Tamura

Tamura had a concealed carry permit issued in Las Vegas, based on a photo reviewed by a US news outlet. Another image showed the blood-stained AR-15 rifle used in the attack. His lifeless body was also photographed, lying on the floor after the incident.

Further details emerged from an old interview, suggesting that Tamura had been a standout football player in high school in California, where he played as a running back. A video titled “Granada Hills football” from nearly 10 years ago has resurfaced online. Many believe it shows a younger Tamura speaking to the camera.

Possible Motive Still Unclear

Investigators are still working to understand what caused Tamura to commit this violent act. However, some internet users have speculated that the NFL’s headquarters may have been a deliberate target. They suggest that Tamura, who once played football, might have held a grudge after failing to make it to the professional league.
