Mariah Carey has once again reminded fans of her timeless persona. The 56-year-old music icon recently told Harper's Bazaar UK that she refuses to acknowledge ageing. She said she lives as if time doesn't apply to her. The singer shared this bold view during a chat ahead of her 16th studio album, Here For It All.
Reflects on Writing Her Memoir
Mariah looked back on creating her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. She closely collaborated with journalist Michaela Angela Davis. "Working on it together was challenging, but it was also therapeutic. We stayed up late figuring out how we were going to put the story forth," she said.
In her book, she shared her struggles as a biracial girl growing up in Long Island, New York. She used the memoir to process those memories and connect with her audience.
Adds Humor to New Music
Though her new album explores her personal journey, Mariah added a fun twist. The lead single, "Type Dangerous," carries a playful and cheeky tone. She called it "tongue in cheek," showing she enjoys experimenting with her sound.
Talks About Her Mother's Advice
Mariah also spoke about her complicated relationship with her mother. Despite challenges, some of her mother’s words left a lasting impression. She recalled, "She once told me, 'don't say if I make it, say when I make it,' that just stuck with me, and I never gave up."
Marks a Long-Standing Career
Mariah began her career in the late 1980s. Over the years, she has achieved three UK number-one singles and two number-one albums. Her holiday anthem, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," remains hugely popular.
Besides music, Mariah has acted in several movies. Her film credits include The Bachelor, Precious, and The Lego Batman Movie. These roles highlight her versatility and ability to shine on screen as well.
