Bumrah Strikes Back at Rauf with Viral Aeroplane Gesture in Asia Cup Final
Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery send-off and India’s spin dominance sealed Pakistan’s collapse in a dramatic Asia Cup final.

Jasprit Bumrah gave a sharp reply to Haris Rauf in the first-ever Asia Cup final on Sunday night. At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Bumrah bowled a scorching yorker in the penultimate over that shattered Rauf’s off stump. Immediately after, he mimicked Rauf’s aeroplane celebration, gesturing a crashing plane. The act stunned fans and quickly went viral on social media.

Previously, Rauf had performed a similar celebration during the Super 4 stage last Sunday. Pakistan had suffered a heavy defeat against Suryakumar Yadav & Co. While fielding near the boundary, Rauf faced ‘Kohli-Kohli’ chants from Indian fans, recalling sixes Virat Kohli hit off him during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne. Confused by the chants, Rauf responded with the ‘6-0’ and aeroplane gestures, referencing Pakistan’s unverified claim of shooting down six Indian fighter jets during a four-day border conflict after Operation Sindoor.

As a result, Rauf faced consequences. The BCCI lodged a formal complaint with the ICC, accusing him of hurting Indian sentiments. Consequently, the ICC fined him 30% of his match fee, sending a strong warning about on-field conduct.

Pakistan’s Strong Start

Pakistan began their innings confidently after being asked to bat first. Sahibzada Farhan scored his second consecutive fifty against India. He and Fakhar Zaman added a solid 84-run opening partnership. At one stage, Pakistan were 113 for one, appearing firmly in control.

India’s Spin Trio Turns the Game

However, India’s spin trio—Kuldeep Yadav (4/30 in 4 overs), Axar Patel (2/26 in 4 overs), and Varun Chakravarthy (2/30 in 4 overs)—took charge in the back 10 overs. The spinners allowed just 95 runs in 13 overs while taking eight crucial wickets, choking Pakistan’s innings completely. As a result, Pakistan were bowled out for 146 with 5 balls to spare, suffering one of their worst collapses in Asia Cup history.

Match Highlights and Legacy

Overall, Bumrah’s fiery send-off and India’s spin dominance shaped the game. Furthermore, the viral aeroplane celebration added drama off the field, making this final memorable not only for the cricket but also for the intense on-field showdowns between the two fast bowlers.
