Delhi Schools to Teach RSS and Freedom Fighters in New Curriculum
Delhi government schools will soon introduce lessons on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) under a new programme called Rashtraneeti.

Delhi government schools will soon introduce lessons on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) under a new programme called Rashtraneeti. The course will also cover freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Tuesday.

Focus on Civic Values and Duties

Sood said the aim of the new course is to build civic and social consciousness among students. “The chapter on RSS is being added under this programme to inculcate civic and social consciousness among students and to bring Fundamental Duties into focus," he explained. The programme will run from Class 1 to Class 12 and encourage ethical governance and national pride.

What the Course Will Include

The Rashtraneeti curriculum will teach students about the origin and history of the RSS, its ideology, and its role during the freedom struggle. It will also highlight the organisation’s contributions during natural disasters, such as the Kedarnath and Bihar floods, as well as its relief work during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to officials, the chapters aim to clear misconceptions about the RSS and showcase its social service activities.

History of RSS

The course will trace the founding of the RSS in 1925 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, by Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. It will underline the group’s commitment to discipline, culture, service, and social responsibility. The chapter will also mention well-known leaders associated with the RSS, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Honouring Freedom Fighters

A separate section will focus on unsung heroes. Students will learn about figures such as Veer Savarkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
This section aims to broaden awareness of lesser-known contributors to India’s freedom struggle.

Teacher Training Underway

Officials have already prepared teacher handbooks. Training sessions are being held at SCERT to prepare educators for the new content.
Authorities are still deciding which class groups will study the chapters in detail.

“This course is being introduced across all classes to give students practical exposure to governance, democracy and active citizenship," a source said.

Official Launch of Rashtraneeti

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Rashtraneeti programme on September 18. The course is part of three new curricula introduced during the ‘Namo Vidya Utsav’ at Bharat Mandapam.
