Teen Star Vaibhav Suryavanshi Smashes Record Century in Youth Test
Teen prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, just 14, smashed a record 78-ball century in the Youth Test against Australia, becoming the youngest to achieve the feat on Australian soil.

Teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his remarkable run of form with yet another record-breaking century. On Wednesday, the 14-year-old batting prodigy hammered a dazzling hundred on the second day of the first Youth Test between India U19 and Australia U19 at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane.

Blistering Knock from the Young Opener

Opening the innings, Suryavanshi gave India a powerful reply after the bowlers dismissed Australia for 243 on the opening day. He struck a quickfire 113 off just 86 balls, smashing nine fours and eight sixes.

He brought up his century in style by hitting a six and a four off consecutive deliveries. His 78-ball hundred is now the second-fastest in Youth Test history, only behind his captain Ayush Mhatre, who reached the landmark in 64 balls against England U19 earlier this year.

Fastest Youth Test Century on Australian Soil

Suryavanshi’s record is also unmatched on Australian grounds. He now holds the record for the fastest Youth Test century in Australia, breaking the previous mark of Liam Blackford. Blackford had taken 124 balls to score a hundred against England U19 in January 2023.

At 14 years and 188 days, Suryavanshi also became the youngest ever player to score a Youth Test century in Australia.

Rising Star with Historic Feats

This isn’t the first time Suryavanshi has made history. In July, he became the first cricketer to score a fifty and take a wicket in the same Youth Test before turning 15. He achieved this in England, surpassing the record held by Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who did it at 15 years and 167 days.

Equals McCullum’s Rare Record

Suryavanshi also matched New Zealand great Brendon McCullum’s achievement of scoring two Youth Test centuries in fewer than 100 deliveries.

Earlier this year, he already had the cricketing world talking when he smashed the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history, reaching the landmark in just 35 balls. That innings is also the second-fastest hundred in IPL history.

At just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to dominate youth cricket with fearless batting and record-breaking knocks. With each milestone, he strengthens his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket.
