India’s women’s blind cricket team made history on Sunday by winning the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind in Colombo. The team defeated Nepal by seven wickets in a dominant final performance to claim the inaugural title.
India’s strong bowling sets the tone
India chose to bowl first at the P Sara Oval and immediately took control. They restricted Nepal to 114 for 5, allowing only one boundary in the entire innings a sign of their disciplined effort.
Nepal struggled to score freely, and India’s fielders backed up the bowlers with sharp work throughout the innings.
India seal the chase with ease
India then chased the target with confidence. They reached 117 for 3 in only 12 overs to seal the championship.
Phula Saren led the run chase with an unbeaten 44, guiding the team home without pressure.
India had entered the final unbeaten. They won against Sri Lanka, the United States, Pakistan, and then outplayed Australia in the semifinal. Nepal reached the title match by defeating Pakistan in the other semifinal.
Co-hosts Sri Lanka managed only one win in the group stage, beating the USA.
Standout performer of the tournament
Pakistan’s Mehreen Ali emerged as the tournament’s top batter. A B3 (partially sighted) player, she scored more than 600 runs, including a remarkable 230 off 78 balls against Sri Lanka and another 133 against Australia.
India’s flawless campaign
After choosing to field in the final, India again held Nepal to 114 for 5. In reply, they completed the chase in 12.1 overs. Khula Sharir remained unbeaten on 44 off 27 balls, ensuring a smooth finish to India’s campaign.
India finished the tournament without losing a single match, showcasing complete control from start to end.
