Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced on Tuesday that the government has directed IndiGo to reduce its flight operations by 10 percent. The decision comes as the airline continues to grapple with nationwide disruptions. He said IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers was called to the Ministry for a detailed briefing.
In a statement on X, Kinjarapu wrote, “During the last week, many passengers faced severe inconvenience due to Indigo’s internal mismanagement of crew rosters, flight schedules and inadequate communication. While the enquiry and necessary actions are underway, another meeting with Indigo’s top management was held to review the stabilisation measures."

Minister Summons IndiGo CEO for Status Update
Kinjarapu said the Ministry demanded an update from Elbers on the status of refunds and service recovery. He added, “He confirmed that 100% of the refunds for flights affected till 6th December have been completed. A strict instruction to expedite the completion of the remaining refunds and baggage handover was given."
Following the review, the Minister announced that IndiGo must temporarily scale back its operations. “A curtailment of 10% has been ordered. While abiding with it, Indigo will continue to cover all its destinations as before," he said.
He also emphasised that IndiGo must follow all government guidelines, including fare caps and measures to protect passenger convenience.
IndiGo Says Operations Improving
Later, in a video message, Elbers assured passengers that recovery efforts were progressing. He said, “IndiGo is back on its feet, and our operations are stable. Lakhs of customers have received full refunds, and we continue to process them daily. Most of the bags stuck at airports have been delivered to homes. We are addressing every customer need."
Nationwide Disruptions Continue for a Fourth Day
Despite these assurances, cancellations and delays persisted across the country on Tuesday. Airport authorities told ANI that more than 400 IndiGo flights were cancelled nationwide.
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport bore the worst impact with 152 cancellations. Bengaluru followed with 121 cancellations. Chennai recorded 41, and Hyderabad reported 58.
Several other airports also experienced disruptions, including Mumbai with 31 cancellations, Ahmedabad with 16, and Patna with 9. Thiruvananthapuram reported only four cancellations.
