Hetmyer’s Fifty and Shepherd’s Hat-trick Power West Indies to Comfortable Victory Over Scotland
West Indies opened their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing 35-run win over Scotland, powered by Shimron Hetmyer’s quickfire fifty and Romario Shepherd’s five-wicket haul.

West Indies defeated Scotland by 35 runs in the 2nd match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. West Indies scored 182/5 in 20 overs after Scotland invited them to bat first.

At the start, Shai Hope and Brandon King provided a blazing opening stand. Then, Shimron Hetmyer took charge and played an aggressive knock of 64 runs off 36 balls. Later, Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford added a late blitz, which helped West Indies cross the 180-run mark. Meanwhile, Bradley Currie (2/23 in 4 overs) emerged as the most impactful bowler for Scotland.

During the chase, Scotland lost three wickets in the powerplay. Jason Holder (3/30 in 3.5 overs) struck early and put Scotland under pressure. However, Richie Berrington and Tom Bruce fought back and built a 78-run partnership for the fourth wicket. After that, Romario Shepherd (5/20 in 3 overs), who took a hat-trick, destroyed Scotland’s batting line-up. As a result, Scotland were bowled out for 147 with 7 balls remaining, and West Indies began their campaign with a solid win.

Player of the Match: Shimron Hetmyer

The way Shimron Hetmyer played is a good sign for West Indies. They need to work hard to maintain their rhythm. West Indies’ performances in the last T20Is were up and down and not very stable. They have the potential to give a shock to any team if their batting works. Another positive sign for West Indies is that their bowlers also took wickets. Romario Shepherd bowled very well and ensured that Scotland could not chase the target.

Scotland, on the other hand, got a chance because of Bangladesh’s exit at the last moment. So, it is a great opportunity for them to perform on one of the biggest stages in world cricket. Be ready for more action. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
