Russia knife attack:  Panic and chaos at the scene

Eyewitnesses described a frightening situation inside the dormitory. They said “there was blood all around.” Videos showed ambulances taking injured students and police officers to hospitals.

Russia knife attack: Possible extremist link under probe

Local television reports said the teenage attacker may have links to a banned neo-Nazi group called the National Socialism / White Power (NS/WP) Crew. Russia’s Supreme Court declared the group a terrorist organisation in 2021.

Media reports said that during or after the attack, a Hakenkreuz (emblem adopted by the Nazi Party) was allegedly drawn on a wall inside the dormitory using the blood of a victim. Authorities are now checking if the attack had any extremist motive.

India responds, probe launched

India’s Embassy in Moscow called the incident “an unfortunate attack” and said it is in contact with local authorities. Officials from the Indian Consulate in Kazan are travelling to Ufa to help the injured students and monitor their treatment.

The incident has led to a high-level investigation by authorities in Ufa, the capital of the Bashkortostan Republic, located about 1,200 km east of Moscow. Law enforcement agencies are trying to find out the reason behind the attack and whether it has links to extremist groups. Families and students are waiting for updates on the condition of those injured.
