Pakistan’s opening batter Sahibzada Farhan continued his sensational form in the T20 World Cup 2026 on Saturday, breaking Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs in a single edition of the tournament. He also became the first player to score two centuries in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. He scored 100 runs off just 60 balls. The 29-year-old achieved this feat during the Group 2 Super 8s do-or-die clash against Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Stadium.
Farhan Surpasses Kohli’s Record
Before the match, Farhan needed 37 runs to surpass Kohli’s tally, which had stood for 12 years. He reached the record in the 5th over of the innings off Dushmantha Chameera’s bowling. Farhan started the over with a six and a four, took a single on the third ball, and was brought on strike on the fourth. On the final ball of the over, he equalled Kohli’s total. He then made the record his own by hitting a four on the first ball of the sixth over, bowled by Dasun Shanaka.
Kohli’s Previous Record
Kohli had scored 319 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup, helping India reach the final. He was also named Player of the Tournament in 2014 and 2016. Farhan’s achievement now surpasses this historic performance.
Farhan’s Tournament Form
Farhan has been in remarkable form throughout the 2026 edition. He scored a century against Namibia and a half-century against England in the Super 8s. His only failure came against India, where Hardik Pandya dismissed him for a duck.
Pakistan Make Key Changes for Must-Win Match
For the do-or-die match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan made three changes. Babar Azam, Saim Ayub, and Salman Mirza were replaced by Naseem Shah, Khawaja Nafay, and Abrar Ahmed.
Sri Lanka Opt to Bowl First
Sri Lanka, already eliminated after losses to England and New Zealand, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Pakistan must win by at least 65 runs to qualify for the semi-finals and knock New Zealand out. Farhan’s record-breaking innings adds confidence to Pakistan’s chances as they aim to advance.
