Statement Comes Amid Middle East Tensions
Trump’s remarks came at a time when tensions are high in the Middle East. The situation escalated after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
Against this backdrop, the statement highlighted the importance of strong India-US ties during global uncertainty.
Modi and Trump Hold Key Phone Call
Earlier this week, Modi and Trump spoke over the phone. During the call, they discussed the ongoing crisis in West Asia. They also talked about the need to maintain stability in the region.
A major point of discussion was the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route. Both leaders stressed the importance of keeping it open and secure. This was their first conversation since the United States and Israel carried out coordinated attacks on Iran.
India Calls for Peace and Stability
After the call, PM Modi shared details on X. He said, “Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world.”
He also added that both leaders agreed to remain in contact. “We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability,” Modi said.
