TVK Chief Vijay to Contest from Two Seats in Tamil Nadu Polls, Promises Big Change
TVK Chief Vijay will contest from two constituencies in Tamil Nadu polls as he seeks support and promises major political change.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay will contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Perambur and Trichy East constituencies. He made this announcement while releasing the list of candidates from his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, which is entering electoral politics for the first time.

At the event, Vijay urged voters to support his party and give it an opportunity. "Vote for whistle, it's a whistle revolution election," he said, highlighting the party’s election symbol. He also asked voters not to treat him differently from other TVK candidates, stressing that all candidates represent the same vision.

Single-Phase Voting and Multi-Cornered Contest

Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase across all 234 Assembly constituencies on April 23.

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam faces a tough contest. The NDA alliance, which includes All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Bharatiya Janata Party, is aiming for a comeback. At the same time, Vijay’s TVK is preparing for a strong debut.

Another alliance led by S Ramadoss and supported by V K Sasikala has created a fourth front. Meanwhile, Seeman is contesting independently through his party, Naam Tamilar Katchi.

DMK Holds Vijay’s Constituencies

The two constituencies Vijay has chosen — Perambur and Trichy East — are currently held by the DMK. R D Sekar represents Perambur, while Inigo S Irudayaraj is the MLA from Trichy East.

Vijay Targets Corruption, Promotes Clean Politics

While announcing candidates, Vijay said the event was more than just a list release. "This is a meeting to announce the names of the protectors of the people," he said.

He highlighted that TVK candidates come from ordinary backgrounds and are not political heavyweights. He also criticised corruption and misconduct in politics.

"Our MLAs should not have experience of looting and illegal mining, or of assaulting journalists who question them. A DMK candidate has corruption charges against him. He went to jail and came back. You all think who he is," he said.

Election Seen as Direct Fight

Vijay described the election as a direct contest. "This election is a two-cornered fight between our people's alliance and MK Stalin Sir's alliance," he said, referring to Chief Minister M K Stalin.

He added that he personally worked hard to select candidates for the party.

Key Promises Ahead of Polls

Vijay also announced several promises for voters. He pledged to create a drug-free Tamil Nadu. He promised monthly financial support for those who remain unemployed after the age of 29. He also assured a law to ensure accountability and transparency in government job recruitment.

Key Contests in Major Constituencies

TVK has fielded strong candidates in key constituencies. V S Babu will contest against M K Stalin in Kolathur. In Chepauk, Selvam, a former Congress leader who recently joined TVK, will face Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Meanwhile, TVK general secretary Aadhav Arjuna will contest from Villivakkam. The party has also nominated Sengottaiyan from Gobichettipalayam.

Overall, TVK’s entry has added a new dimension to the Tamil Nadu elections, making the contest more competitive and closely watched.
