No Direct Talks, Says Iran as Diplomatic Activity Rises in Islamabad
Iran refuses direct talks with the US as Abbas Araghchi visits Pakistan for mediation, while Washington hints at a possible Iranian offer.

Iran has made it clear that it will not hold direct talks with the United States, even as diplomatic activity grows in the region. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said there is no scheduled meeting between Iranian and US negotiators. His statement came after Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Pakistan late at night for discussions aimed at easing tensions.

“No meeting is planned to take place between Iran and the US. Iran’s observations would be conveyed to Pakistan," Baghaei said.

Moreover, he added that Araghchi will engage with Pakistani officials as part of mediation efforts. He said the discussions are aligned “in concert with their ongoing mediation and good offices for ending (the) American imposed war of aggression and the restitution of peace in our region.”

However, even though negotiators from both sides may be present at the same venue, this statement has increased uncertainty about whether any direct talks will happen.

Araghchi meets Pakistan leadership

Meanwhile, Araghchi has already met Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. They discussed “regional developments and issues related to the ceasefire.”

Earlier, Iran’s state media, Islamic Republic News Agency, reported that Araghchi has started a broader diplomatic tour. “Iran’s Foreign Minister will begin a regional tour on Friday evening, April 24, travelling to Islamabad, Muscat and Moscow,” IRNA said.

Therefore, this visit is part of a wider effort to build regional support and reduce tensions.

Trump signals possible Iranian proposal

At the same time, US President Donald Trump said Iran may soon present an offer to Washington. However, he admitted that details are not yet clear.

“They’re making an offer and we’ll have to see,” Trump told Reuters.

In addition, according to CNN, the US is sending special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner to Islamabad. They are expected to join discussions with Araghchi over the weekend.

Key leaders to skip talks

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance is not expected to attend. Similarly, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf will also stay away.

Thus, the absence of these key figures suggests that top-level engagement remains limited.

Uncertainty remains over talks

Finally, diplomatic movements continue on both sides. However, clarity is still missing. Iran has firmly rejected direct talks, while the US hints at possible progress. Overall, confusion remains about whether any breakthrough discussions will take place.
