South Africa crushed Namibia by 99 runs via the DLS method in the first ODI of the three-match series. South Africa posted 348 after being sent in to bat. Jordan Hermann played the leading role and shared a huge 190-run partnership for the second wicket with Tony de Zorzi. Jordan Hermann scored 150 runs off 126 balls. De Zorzi also produced a strong innings and registered his third ODI half-century. In reply, Namibia managed to score 162/8 in 31 overs and lost the match by 99 runs. With this win, South Africa started the series on a high note.

Namibia Miss Crucial Chance to Dismiss Hermann

Hermann's innings could have ended much earlier. He was on 30 when he failed to make his ground while attempting a single. Namibia managed a direct hit at the non-striker's end, but the batter was not given out. There was no DRS available, so Namibia could not review the decision. Hermann took full advantage of the escape. He went on to add another 120 runs and played a major role in South Africa's victory. Namibia had other concerns with the ball as well. Left-arm seamer JJ Smit was the only bowler who conceded fewer than six runs per over. Bernard Scholtz, Namibia's leading ODI wicket-taker, failed to take a wicket. However, Namibia's bowling performance needs to be viewed in context. They have crossed the 300-run mark only four times in ODI cricket before this match. Their highest successful ODI chase is also only 266.

South Africa Build Momentum After Slow Start

South Africa did not immediately dominate the innings. Ruben Trumpelmann found some movement with the new ball and created early problems. Conner Esterhuizen survived a close chance in the first over when he edged a delivery down the leg side. Zane Green made a full-length attempt behind the stumps, but could not complete the catch. Trumpelmann also beat Hermann's outside edge and later forced a top edge. However, Namibia could not convert those opportunities into wickets. Trumpelmann eventually got his reward in the seventh over. Esterhuizen attacked a short delivery and pulled it towards fine leg, where Jack Brassell completed the catch. The opening partnership ended at 27. De Zorzi also had his share of luck. He edged his ninth delivery wide of the slip cordon. Later, he appeared to inside-edge a Brassell delivery onto Green but was given not out. Another edge then went between the wicketkeeper and first slip. De Zorzi also survived a run-out opportunity. Namibia continued to create chances but failed to capitalise on them.

Hermann and De Zorzi Change the Pace

South Africa reached 100 for 1 after 20 overs. The innings then moved into a higher gear. The next seven overs produced 50 runs. Hermann reached his half-century with a single between two boundaries against Brassell. De Zorzi soon joined him at the milestone, completing his fifty from 64 deliveries. Namibia brought back experienced campaigners Smit and Scholtz in an attempt to slow the scoring. They managed two boundary-free overs. However, whenever Namibia tried different options in search of wickets, South Africa found ways to score. The pressure gradually shifted towards the home side.

Hermann Explodes After Reaching His Century

Hermann completed his century from 93 balls with a single. The milestone appeared to free him from any restrictions. He became increasingly aggressive and began using a range of attacking shots, including several scoops. After reaching three figures, he added five fours and two sixes. Although Hermann is particularly strong on the leg side, he showed excellent shot distribution throughout the innings. He also collected 59 runs between cover and mid-off, highlighting his ability to score around the ground. De Zorzi's innings was more measured in comparison. His knock finally ended when he was beaten for pace while attempting a reverse sweep. He was trapped lbw.

Dewald Brevis Adds More Power

Dewald Brevis arrived at the crease after De Zorzi's dismissal and immediately showed his intent. The young batter needed only two balls to produce a no-look six, adding further pressure on Namibia. South Africa reached 266 for 2 after 40 overs and looked set to cross 350. Namibia, however, managed to restrict the boundaries for a short period and forced Hermann to attempt a high-risk shot. Hermann tried to slash a back-of-the-hand slower delivery over backward point. However, he could only pick out Louren Steenkamp. His dismissal triggered a brief collapse. South Africa lost four wickets for 58 runs, with Trumpelmann claiming three of those wickets. Brevis was caught at deep square leg after pulling Trumpelmann. Rubin Hermann was then dismissed lbw while attempting to play the ball fine. Jason Smith also failed to clear mid-wicket. However, Corbin Bosch ensured South Africa finished strongly. He smashed 39 from only 24 balls and helped South Africa reach 348, just two runs short of 350.

Namibia Struggle During the Chase

Namibia began their reply cautiously. Their opening pair scored only 24 runs during the first 10 overs. The hosts also went without a boundary for 10 overs, from the second to the 12th over. That lack of scoring put Namibia under increasing pressure. Alex Busing-Volschenk tried to change the tempo when he attempted to hit Bjorn Fortuin over the top. He was on 12 at the time. Smith got underneath the ball at long-off and appeared to have judged the catch well. However, he did not hold on cleanly and the ball burst through his hands. Busing-Volschenk did not benefit for long. From the very next ball, Kwena Maphaka beat him with pace and movement. The batter played down the wrong line and was caught behind. Jan Frylinck also struggled to find his rhythm. He took 16 balls to score seven runs before Maphaka bowled him after he bottom-edged the delivery onto his own stumps. Malan Kruger, the other opener, also had a difficult innings. His 34 came from 60 balls. His stay ended in the 19th over when he missed a flick and was given lbw to Prenelan Subrayen.

Rain Makes Namibia’s Task Even Harder

Namibia were 73 for 3 in the 22nd over when rain stopped play in Windhoek. The game resumed after an hour and 18 minutes. Namibia's target was revised to 301 from 38 overs. That left the hosts needing another 225 runs from just 16.3 overs. The revised target immediately put Namibia under enormous pressure. Only 10 balls after the restart, Steenkamp attempted to attack Bosch but skied the ball towards short cover. Subrayen completed the catch, signalling that Namibia's hopes were fading quickly. Gerhard Erasmus briefly provided some resistance by hitting two excellent boundaries. However, rain returned and caused another interruption of around 30 minutes.

South Africa Complete Comfortable Victory

Play eventually resumed in fading light, with Namibia requiring 167 runs from only seven overs. The target was effectively out of reach. Namibia lost four more wickets while scoring just 67 runs. South Africa's seamers consistently used hard lengths and shared four wickets. Subrayen was particularly impressive and finished with career-best figures of 4 for 28. Namibia never produced a significant partnership after their 51-run opening stand. No other partnership crossed 51 runs. In the end, Namibia were beaten by 99 runs under the DLS method. South Africa's strong batting performance, led by Hermann's outstanding debut century and 150-plus score, gave them a winning start to the ODI series.
