Trump Announces New Trade Pact with the Philippines After Meeting with Marcos Jr.
US President Donald Trump announced a new trade deal with the Philippines, promising closer economic and military ties after a White House meeting with President Marcos Jr.

US President Donald Trump revealed a new trade agreement with the Philippines on Tuesday. The announcement came shortly after Trump hosted Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for a high-level meeting at the White House.

Trump Shares Details on Truth Social

Trump shared the news through a post on his platform, Truth Social. He called the agreement a big step in improving trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

“President Ferdinand Marcos, of the Philippines, is just leaving the White House… We concluded our Trade Deal, whereby The Philippines is going OPEN MARKET with the United States, and ZERO Tariffs,” Trump wrote.

However, he also mentioned that the Philippines would still pay a 19 percent tariff under the new arrangement, though he did not explain how that fits with the "zero tariffs" comment.

Military Cooperation Highlighted

Trump also emphasized the defense side of the partnership. He said, “We will work together militarily… He [Marcos Jr.] is a very good and tough negotiator.” This signals that both countries plan to deepen not only economic but also military cooperation.

Talks on China and Diplomatic Balance

During their meeting in the Oval Office, Trump and Marcos Jr. also talked about the Philippines’ foreign policy—especially how it plans to maintain relations with both the U.S. and China.

The discussion comes at a time when tensions in the Asia-Pacific region remain high, and the Philippines is trying to balance its alliances with two global powers.
