Dewald Brevis delivered a breathtaking performance at the Marrara Cricket Ground on Tuesday. He scored the second-fastest T20I century by a South African, destroying the Australian bowling attack in the second T20I.
Dominant Start in Darwin
Asked to bat first, South Africa posted a massive 218/7 in 20 overs. Brevis was the star, hitting a blazing 41-ball hundred. The Australian bowlers looked helpless as the young Proteas batter attacked from the start.
Record-Breaking Knock
Brevis stayed unbeaten on 125 runs off just 56 balls. His innings included 12 fours and 8 sixes. On a pitch where others struggled, he made batting look easy. He reached his maiden fifty in the 12th over with a six, then powered on to three figures in no time.
Praise From AB de Villiers
His heroics caught the eye of AB de Villiers, who praised him and criticised IPL teams for overlooking him. “There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction! Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke ever. The boy can play @BrevisDewald,” De Villiers posted on X.

CSK’s Mid-Season Masterstroke
Chennai Super Kings had initially passed on Brevis during the mega auction. But after Gurjapneet Singh got injured, they brought him in as a replacement. The decision paid off, as he scored 225 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 180, including two fifties.
