Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called France a “special partner” while inaugurating the assembly line of H-125 helicopters in Mumbai along with French President Emmanuel Macron. The event highlighted growing defence and technology cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Modi said that India and France will now manufacture the H-125 helicopter in India. He noted that the helicopter is capable of flying at the heights of Mount Everest.
Partnership Elevated to New Level
Modi said both nations have agreed to raise their relationship to a special global strategic partnership. He described it as a “force for global stability amid uncertainty.” The move reflects stronger political, economic, and technological ties between the two sides.
He also underlined that cooperation is expanding into several key areas. These include critical minerals, biotechnology, and advanced materials. According to him, both countries are working to build long-term collaboration in modern and high-value sectors.
New Joint Initiatives Announced
The Prime Minister announced the launch of several new joint programmes. These include the Indo-French Centre for AI in Health, the Indo-French Centre for Digital Science and Technology, and the National Centre of Alliance for Skilling in Aeronautics.
He said the new helicopter assembly line combines France’s advanced technology with India’s production capacity. He added that both nations are also working together on trusted technologies through platforms such as the International Solar Alliance and the India-Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor.
Macron Praises Unique Relationship
President Macron described the India–France partnership as unique. He said it is based on trust, openness, and shared ambition. He also said the relationship has reached a new level and expressed confidence about its future.
Macron pointed out that both countries have worked closely over the past eight years. Their cooperation has covered important areas such as the Indo-Pacific region, artificial intelligence, and clean energy.
Visit and Upcoming Engagements
Macron arrived in Mumbai late Monday. He was welcomed by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. After completing events in Mumbai, both leaders are scheduled to travel to New Delhi.
They will attend the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, where further discussions on technology and innovation are expected.
