Jaishankar Holds Key Talks as West Asia Tensions Escalate
Jaishankar engages West Asian leaders as Trump balances deal hopes with fresh threats over Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday held discussions with top leaders in West Asia as tensions in the region continued to rise. He spoke with Abbas Araghchi, along with leaders from Qatar and United Arab Emirates, to assess the fast-changing situation.

Focus on Strait of Hormuz

Jaishankar said he received a call from his Iranian counterpart. They discussed the “present situation,” especially developments around the Strait of Hormuz.

He also held separate talks with Qatar’s Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and UAE’s Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to review the evolving crisis.

Continued Engagement with Iran

This conversation marked Jaishankar’s sixth interaction with Araghchi since the conflict began. Their last discussion took place on March 21. The repeated engagement highlights India’s active diplomatic role during the crisis.

Trump Signals Deal but Issues Warning

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said there is a “good chance” of reaching a deal with Iran. “I think there is a good chance tomorrow. They are negotiating now,” he said during an interview with Fox News.

However, he also warned of serious consequences if talks fail. “If they don’t make a deal and fast, I’m considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil,” he said.

Fresh Threat Over Hormuz

Trump issued another strong warning through a post on Truth Social. “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day and Bridge Day… Open the Strait, or you’ll be living in hell — just watch!” he wrote.

The statement increased pressure on Iran over reopening the key shipping route.

Talks Continue Despite Tensions

Despite his tough stance, Trump confirmed that US officials are still in talks with Iran. Speaking to Axios, he said discussions are moving forward, though not smoothly.

“The negotiations are going well, but you never get to the finish line with the Iranians,” he said.

He added that both sides recently came close to agreeing on direct talks.

Historical Reference Adds to Tensions

Amid rising tensions, Iran also referred to past US military failures. It mentioned the Operation Eagle Claw, signalling its resistance and warning against escalation.

Situation Remains Delicate

The crisis continues to develop quickly. Diplomatic talks are ongoing, but strong statements from both sides keep tensions high. Global attention remains focused on the Strait of Hormuz and the risk it poses to energy supplies and regional stability.
