UN Envoy Plans Iran Visit to Push for Ceasefire
A UN envoy may travel to Iran to push for peace, as global efforts grow to stop the ongoing conflict.

A senior envoy appointed by Antonio Guterres is planning to visit Iran to help ease tensions and encourage an end to the war. The envoy, Jean Arnault, was assigned to handle the crisis last month. He travelled to the Middle East on Monday. However, the United Nations has not shared full details of his schedule.

Visit Depends on Security Conditions

According to a UN source, Arnault’s visit to Tehran is not confirmed yet. His travel plans depend on security conditions and logistical arrangements.

At the same time, Iran’s UN ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani informed the UN Security Council that the envoy was “currently en route to Tehran to pursue consultations.”

Trump Issues Strong Warning

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump increased pressure on Iran. He warned of a major escalation in the conflict involving the US and Israel. As his deadline approached, Trump said, “a whole civilization will die tonight”

He had set a deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of further conflict.

Iran Reviews Ceasefire Proposal

With only hours left before the deadline, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran was considering a request from Pakistan for a two-week ceasefire.

Therefore, Iran appeared open to giving diplomacy more time.

Iran Supports Diplomatic Efforts

Iran welcomed the UN’s involvement and Guterres’ decision to appoint a special envoy.

Iravani said, “Iran stands ready to engage constructively with all genuine diplomatic efforts, including through Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt, as well as diplomatic efforts by China and Russia, and supports any credible initiative capable of bringing about a sustainable end to this unlawful and unwarranted war,” he said.

In addition, Iran signaled its willingness to work with multiple countries to reach a peaceful solution.

Focus Shifts to Diplomacy

For now, global attention has shifted toward negotiations. The possible visit by the UN envoy could play a key role in reducing tensions. However, the success of these efforts will depend on security conditions and cooperation from all sides.
