KKR vs LSG Match in Doubt Due to Security Concerns
KKR’s home match against LSG on April 6 may be rescheduled due to security concerns over Ram Navami celebrations.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may not play their home match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 6 at Eden Gardens. Local police have denied security clearance due to Ram Navami celebrations across West Bengal. As a result, the match could be rescheduled.

Security Concerns Force a Rethink

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari announced more than 20,000 processions during the festival. Consequently, the state has increased security measures. Due to this, the police informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they cannot provide security for the match.

CAB Confirms Police Refusal

CAB president Snehasish Ganguly met with the police twice. However, they clearly stated they would not be able to manage a crowd of 65,000 without proper security. "They have categorically said they won't be able to provide adequate security. If there's no police protection, accommodating a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible," Ganguly told the sources.

BCCI Notified, Decision Pending

Following this, CAB informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Although there is still time, a final decision has yet to be made. Notably, Ganguly recalled that a similar situation occurred last year, leading to a rescheduled IPL match.

Fans Disappointed

Naturally, this development has disappointed fans. The KKR vs LSG match was expected to draw a massive crowd. Moreover, since LSG is owned by RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka, the match held special significance for cricket lovers in the region.

IPL 2025 to Begin at Eden Gardens

Despite this setback, the 2025 IPL season will begin as planned on March 22 at Eden Gardens. In the opening match, defending champions KKR will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Grand Opening Ceremony Planned

Before the match, a 35-minute grand opening ceremony will take place. In addition, singer Shreya Ghoshal and actress Disha Patani will perform. Furthermore, ICC chairman Jay Shah and other dignitaries will attend, marking the return of a grand opening ceremony at Eden Gardens after many years.

Huge Demand for Tickets

Meanwhile, demand for tickets has been overwhelming. According to Snehasish Ganguly, preparations are in full swing to make the event memorable. However, he did not reveal further details about the ceremony.
