India Leads Global Digital Transactions, Says FM Sitharaman
Digital India, launched ten years ago, has grown into a powerful people’s movement, transforming governance, payments, and agriculture through technology.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that Digital India is no longer just a government scheme—it has grown into a people’s movement. She marked the completion of 10 years of the initiative in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

A Key to Self-Reliance and Global Trust

She wrote that “Digital India is central to building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and to making India a trusted innovation partner to the world.” She also highlighted the mission’s achievements, adding, “From bringing internet access to remote corners of the country to making government services available online, the 'Digital India' initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-government has truly bridged the digital divide across the nation.”

Sitharaman praised India’s digital payment system as well. She said, “Scan. Pay. Done. India’s UPI revolution powers nearly half of the world’s real-time digital transactions.”

From Governance to Global Digital Leadership

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal also posted on X, celebrating the initiative's success. He pointed out that with systems like UPI, DBT, GeM, ONDC, SVAMITVA, and others, India is going beyond digital governance and moving toward global leadership in technology.

He also quoted PM Modi, saying, “When the intent is right, innovation empowers the less empowered.”

PM Modi Reflects on a Bold Vision

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his thoughts on LinkedIn, calling Digital India central to building a self-reliant country and a reliable partner in global innovation. He encouraged the country's tech community by writing, “To all innovators, entrepreneurs, and dreamers: the world is looking at India for the next digital breakthrough.”

Looking back, Modi said India made a bold move a decade ago. At that time, people doubted whether ordinary citizens could use technology. But, as the PM noted, “We changed this approach and trusted the ability of Indians to use technology.”

Digital India’s Impact on Agriculture

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi praised the digital impact on farming. He pointed to the eNAM platform, which helps farmers connect with buyers across India.

He wrote, “With Rs 4 lakh crore in trade and 1.7 crore farmers empowered across 1,400+ mandis, the impact is real. A bold leap under the visionary leadership of PM Modi.”
