Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to West Bengal on Thursday, strongly criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He accused her and the TMC government of neglecting development and focusing only on politics.
Modi said Mamata Banerjee skipped the NITI Aayog meeting in Delhi, which showed her lack of interest in the state's progress. He stated, “TMC only wants to play politics 24 hours a day. They do not prioritise West Bengal's development or the country's progress. The Central Government policies that have been implemented here in West Bengal are not being fulfilled.”
Modi Accuses TMC of Halting Key Projects
Moreover, PM Modi blamed the TMC government for stopping 16 major infrastructure projects. These projects, he said, should have been completed last year. However, the TMC administration delayed them, slowing the state’s development.
PM Says TMC Ignores Marginalised Groups
Furthermore, PM Modi said that TMC has a negative attitude towards poor people, tribals, Dalits, backward classes, and women. He accused the state government of disrespecting and ignoring these communities.
He said, “The TMC government is stalling the development of the poor tribal communities...TMC doesn't care about the tribal community's respect. When the NDA government made a tribal woman a Presidential candidate for the first time, TMC was the first party to oppose that.”
Modi Claims TMC Blocks Welfare Schemes
In addition, Modi criticised the TMC for not allowing central welfare schemes to reach the people. He mentioned that the Ayushman Bharat health scheme has not been fully implemented in the state.
He said, “Why is TMC being hostile towards the poor, Dalits, the backwards classes, women, and tribals?... Unfortunately, the people of West Bengal are not getting the benefits of the Ayushman scheme... The ruthless government didn't let the people of West Bengal get Ayushman cards... Many poor people are not able to get permanent houses because of the TMC government, because their leaders are demanding cuts and commissions from the poor.”
