Raghav Chadha Breaks Silence, Asks ‘Is Raising Public Issues a Crime?’
Raghav Chadha questioned AAP’s move to remove him, asking if raising public issues in Parliament had become a “crime”.

Raghav Chadha spoke publicly for the first time after the Aam Aadmi Party removed him as Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha. He shared a video message on X and questioned the decision. He asked if raising public issues in Parliament had become a “crime”. He said, “Have I done something wrong?”

Chadha Defends His Role in Parliament

In the video, Chadha said he always speaks about people’s concerns whenever he gets a chance in Parliament. He questioned why the party would want to stop him. He said, “Whenever I get the chance to speak in Parliament, I raise public's issues…but is it a crime or a mistake to do so? I am asking this because AAP has told the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to put a stop to Raghav Chadha's Parliament address.”

He added that he does not understand why anyone would want to silence him. He said, “Why would anyone want to silence me?” He also thanked people for their support. He ended his message with a strong line, “Don't mistake my silence for my defeat”.

Issues Raised by Chadha

Chadha listed several topics he raised in Parliament. These included high food prices at airports, problems faced by gig workers, issues with prepaid mobile plans, and concerns about taxes paid by the middle class.

Soon after his removal, he posted another video on X. The clip showed a compilation of his speeches in Parliament. He added only a 🧿 emoji in the post and did not give further comments on the decision.

In recent weeks, he had also spoken about flight delays, alleged exam paper leaks, and the demand for legal paternity leave.

AAP Replaces Chadha With Ashok Mittal

The party removed Chadha from the Deputy Leader post on Thursday. It gave the responsibility to Ashok Mittal.

Speculation Over Rift Within AAP

Many observers see this move as a sign of internal differences within AAP. Opposition leaders also reacted to the development. Virendra Sachdeva compared the situation to the earlier dispute between Swati Maliwal and Arvind Kejriwal in 2024.

Sachdeva said, “First it was Swati Maliwal and now Raghav Chadha, both key figures in AAP Delhi, who appear to have moved away from Kejriwal’s style of functioning,” He also claimed that Chadha had distanced himself from what he called the “anarchic and corrupt leadership” of Kejriwal.

Reasons Behind the Move

Some reports suggest that Chadha’s silence on key party matters may have led to this decision. When Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in March 2024 in connection with the excise policy case, Chadha did not take part in protests. He said he was in London for eye surgery.

Reports also say that he stayed away during Kejriwal’s nearly six-month jail term. He met Kejriwal only a few days after his release in September 2024.

AAP Denies Rift Claims

AAP has rejected claims of any internal conflict. Party leaders said the decision is part of routine restructuring. They also denied reports that Chadha was stopped from speaking in Parliament under the party’s quota.
