A strong earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal early Tuesday, July 29. It had a magnitude of 6.3. The tremor hit near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 12:11 am.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km. Its epicentre was located at 6.82°N latitude and 93.37°E longitude.

So far, authorities have reported no injuries or damage.
Earlier Tremors Felt in Delhi
Just a week earlier, mild tremors were felt in Delhi and surrounding areas. On July 22, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake hit Faridabad. Fortunately, it caused no harm.
NCR Plans Drills
As a result of recent seismic activity, Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh will hold large-scale disaster drills. These will take place from July 29 to August 1 across the National Capital Region.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Indian Army, and state governments will lead these exercises. The goal is to improve coordination during emergencies like earthquakes and chemical leaks.
Other Quakes Reported Globally
Meanwhile, Japan’s northern region of Hokkaido experienced a 5.3 magnitude earthquake on Monday. It shook several areas but posed no tsunami threat.
Earlier, on Friday, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck near Samoa in the South Pacific. According to the US Geological Survey, the deep quake did not cause any reported damage.
