US President Donald Trump, during his speech in Israel’s Parliament on Monday, claimed he had “ended eight wars in eight months.” He celebrated the return of hostages from Gaza and called the moment a “time of peace and renewal” for the Middle East.
Trump said the ceasefire that ended the Gaza war marked the “historic dawn of a new Middle East.” He added, “And after so many years of unceasing war and endless danger, today the skies are calm, the guns are silent, the sirens are still, and the sun rises on a holy land that is finally at peace, a land and a region that will live, God willing, in peace for all eternity.”
Calling it more than just a truce, he said, “This is not only the end of a war… This is the historic dawn of a new Middle East.”
The US president addressed the Knesset alongside Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Speaker Amir Ohana, and opposition leader Yair Lapid, who also spoke at the event.
Trump Thanks Arab and Muslim Nations for Their Role
Trump praised the Arab and Muslim nations that helped mediate the Gaza ceasefire and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. He expressed gratitude for their unexpected cooperation.
“Let me also convey my tremendous appreciation for all of the nations of the Arab and Muslim world that came together to press Hamas to set the hostages free and to send them home,” he said.
“We had a lot of help, we had a lot of help from a lot of people that you wouldn’t suspect, and I want to thank them very much for that. It’s an incredible triumph for Israel and the world to have all of these nations working together as partners in peace.”
Brief Protest Interrupts Trump’s Address
Trump’s speech was briefly interrupted when left-wing lawmaker Ofer Cassif protested inside the Knesset. Security quickly removed him from the chamber.
“That was very efficient,” Trump joked, pausing as staff escorted the MP out.
‘Long, Painful Nightmare’ Finally Over
During his address, Trump said the end of the Gaza conflict marked relief for both Israelis and Palestinians after two years of war.
“From October 7 until this week, Israel has been a nation at war, enduring burdens that only a proud and faithful people could withstand,” he said.
“For so many families across this land, it has been years since you’ve known a single day of true peace… The long and painful nightmare is finally over,” he added.
Trump Hopes for Peace Deal with Iran
Trump also expressed optimism about improving relations with Iran, months after the US and Israel jointly targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities during a brief conflict.
“They got it from one side, from the other, and you know it would be great if we could make a peace deal with them,” Trump said while addressing Israeli lawmakers.
“Would you be happy with that? Wouldn’t it be nice, I think. Because I think they want to,” he added, suggesting that Iran might also be ready for dialogue.
