Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that Ukraine will coordinate with the United States and European partners to advance discussions on a peace plan for the war with Russia. His statement came after a phone call with US Vice President JD Vance and US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll.
“We spoke for almost an hour with US @VP JD Vance and @SecArmy Dan Driscoll,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. He said they covered many details of Washington’s proposals to end the war and discussed how to ensure “a lasting peace.” He praised the US for its willingness to cooperate and confirmed that Ukraine, the US, and Europe would now work “at the level of national security advisors to make the path to peace truly doable.”
Zelenskyy added, “Ukraine has always respected and continues to respect U.S. President Donald Trump’s desire to put an end to the bloodshed, and we view every realistic proposal positively. We agreed to maintain constant contact, and our teams are ready to work 24/7. Thank you!”

Kyiv Under Pressure Over US Proposal
Earlier in a national address, Zelenskyy warned Ukrainians that the United States is applying strong pressure on Kyiv to accept its proposed plan to end the war with Russia. He said the country risks losing support from its most important ally if it rejects Washington’s approach.
According to The Guardian, he said the next few days would be “very difficult” as political pressure grows. Zelenskyy told the nation, “Ukraine may face a very difficult choice: either the loss of dignity or the risk of losing a key partner.”
He stressed that he would work constructively with the US but would not compromise Ukraine’s sovereignty or its national interests. He also made clear that Ukraine would seek changes to the US proposal to prevent Russia from portraying Kyiv as unwilling to seek peace.
“I will present arguments, I will persuade, I will propose alternatives,” he said.
US Pushes for Quick Agreement
A Reuters report said the US is urging Ukraine to accept the framework of a US-brokered peace deal within the next week. According to two sources familiar with the talks, Washington warned that key military and intelligence support could be reduced if Kyiv refuses.
The ultimatum marks a major step up in US pressure after more than two and a half years of war. One source said the Trump administration wants Ukraine to agree to the basic terms by next Thursday. Such a move would be the strongest US attempt yet to influence Kyiv’s negotiation position at a time when Ukraine’s battlefield situation is becoming more difficult.
