Eight Arrested in Tamil Nadu Over Alleged Terror Plot with ISI Links
Indian security agencies arrested eight suspects over an alleged terror plot with suspected links to Pakistan’s ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeting major religious sites.

Indian security agencies arrested at least eight people for allegedly planning a terrorist attack, with investigators suspecting links to Pakistan’s ISI and groups based in Bangladesh.

Joint Operation in Tamil Nadu

National security agencies carried out a coordinated intelligence operation in Tamil Nadu and arrested six suspects. The arrests took place in Uthukuli, Palladam and the Thirumuruganpoondi area. Two more individuals had already been detained earlier in connection with the same case, sources told Press Trust of India.

Officials said some of those arrested are believed to be Bangladeshi nationals.

Security teams conducted raids at multiple locations and detained the suspects before the alleged plan could be carried out.

Suspected Links and Online Activity

Police identified the arrested individuals as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Ujjal. According to investigators, they were involved in anti-social activities and shared online posts supporting Pakistan-based terrorist organisations.

Authorities believe the group was in contact with handlers linked to Pakistan’s ISI and certain Bangladesh-based outfits.

The Delhi Police Special Cell said, “The operation followed an investigation into online posts supporting terror activities, which led the team to Tiruppur with the assistance of the local police. Investigators found that the six individuals were working in garment factories in the region and were carrying fake Aadhaar cards.”

Fake Identity Documents and Seizures

Preliminary investigations showed that the accused allegedly used forged Aadhaar cards to hide their real identities and obtain jobs in the Tiruppur garment industry.

During the raids, officers seized eight mobile phones and sixteen SIM cards. Investigators believe these devices were used to build contacts and networks across different parts of the country.

“All accused are being brought to Delhi by train; the investigation is ongoing. These accused, suspected of aiding terrorists, conducted a recce of several cities. Posters of “Free Kashmir" were put up in Delhi," Delhi Police said in a statement.

The suspects are now being transported to Delhi under tight security for detailed questioning. Agencies are trying to determine the full motive behind the alleged conspiracy and identify potential targets.

Another Detention in Samba

In a related development, police detained another suspect in Samba in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials reportedly found several phone numbers with Pakistan’s +92 country code stored on his mobile phone.

The suspect has been handed over to Police Post Rakha for further interrogation. Authorities are investigating the nature of these contacts and whether they are linked to the broader case.

Lashkar-e-Taiba Angle and Possible Targets

The arrests came a day after intelligence agencies warned of a possible conspiracy by Lashkar-e-Taiba to target religious and tourist sites in Delhi.

According to intelligence inputs, sensitive areas in Old Delhi, including places around Chandni Chowk, could be potential targets.

Agencies also warned of possible coordinated IED attacks on major Hindu shrines in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Among the temples identified as possible targets are Akshardham Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Other locations reportedly under watch include the Lotus Temple, ISKCON Temple Delhi and the Ram Mandir Ayodhya.

Investigating agencies are continuing their probe to confirm the extent of the alleged network and prevent any possible attack.
