Australia Women crushed West Indies Women by 9 wickets in the 3rd ODI of the three match series at St Kitts. After being asked to bat first, West Indies Women were bundled out for 136 runs in 35.4 overs. Alana King (5/19 in 10 overs) and Ashleigh Gardner (2/29 in 7.4 overs) dismantled the West Indies batting line-up. Chinelle Henry was the highest scorer for West Indies Women, remaining unbeaten on 42 runs.
In reply, Australia comfortably chased down the target in 19.4 overs, thanks to a blazing knock of 68 runs off 56 balls by Phoebe Litchfield. With this win, Australia Women completed a 3-0 clean sweep of the ODI series and remained unbeaten throughout the Caribbean tour.
Alana King Shines With Five-Wicket Haul
Alana King delivered an outstanding bowling performance. She picked up 5 wickets for just 19 runs, which is her second-best ODI performance. Her only better figures remain 7 for 18 against South Africa during last year’s ODI World Cup.
Her spell helped Australia bowl out West Indies for just 136 runs in St Kitts. This performance was a strong comeback for King, who had earlier struggled in the series with figures of 1 for 87 across the first two matches.
West Indies Collapse After Strong Start
West Indies started well in the powerplay after making changes to their batting order. They promoted Deandra Dottin to open alongside captain Hayley Matthews. The move initially worked as they built a solid foundation.
However, things changed quickly after Dottin got out. She edged a delivery from Lucy Hamilton to slip, giving the young left-arm pacer her first ODI wicket.
After that breakthrough, West Indies lost momentum completely. They eventually lost all ten wickets for just 98 runs after their early progress.
King Breaks Backbone of Batting Line-Up
Captain Tahlia McGrath, leading in place of injured Sophie Molineux, introduced Alana King as the fifth bowler. King made an immediate impact.
She dismissed Hayley Matthews, who mistimed a shot to cover. Just two balls later, Jannillea Glasgow was caught brilliantly by Georgia Wareham at point. Australia’s fielding showed major improvement, with sharp catches supporting their bowlers.
There was a brief fightback from Chinelle Henry and Realeanna Grimmond. The pair added 37 runs for the sixth wicket. But the partnership ended when Grimmond hit King straight to long-off.
King completed her five-wicket haul by dismissing Afy Fletcher and Karishma Ramharack. Henry was left stranded as wickets kept falling at the other end.
Australia Chase Target With Ease
Australia chased down the small target quickly. They reached the total in less than 20 overs, showing their batting strength. Phoebe Litchfield played a superb innings. She remained unbeaten on 68 runs from 56 balls. Her performance earned her the Player-of-the-Series award.
Georgia Voll was the only Australian batter to get out. She was dismissed after adding 50 runs for the opening wicket with Litchfield.
Litchfield Dominates With Stylish Batting
Litchfield impressed throughout the innings. She played a variety of shots with confidence. Her knock included a powerful switch hit and an excellent reverse sweep over the off side.
She finished as the top run-scorer of the series by a comfortable margin.
Australia Complete Perfect Tour
With this win, Australia completed a perfect tour. They won all six matches they played, including a 3-0 victory in the T20I series. Most of their wins came by big margins, showing a clear difference in quality between the two teams.
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews admitted the gap, saying, "There's a clear skill gap between the two teams but there's things we can work on,"
Australia ended their tour of the West Indies in dominant fashion. They defeated the hosts by nine wickets in the final ODI to complete a 3-0 series sweep. With this result, Australia finished the entire tour unbeaten. Both teams will now shift focus to the upcoming T20 World Cup in England, starting in mid-June.
Australia will play three additional T20 matches against South Africa as part of their preparation. Meanwhile, West Indies will take part in a tri-series in Ireland, along with the host nation and Pakistan, to get ready for the tournament. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
