US President Donald Trump announced a new visa ban targeting Harvard University on Wednesday. He said he had “determined that it is necessary to restrict the entry of foreign nationals” who want to study or join exchange programs at Harvard.
Ongoing Dispute with Harvard
Trump has often criticized the Ivy League school. He accused it of resisting his policies on admissions, research, and curriculum. Harvard, in return, pushed back against his administration’s influence.
Immediate Action Against Incoming Students
In the new order, Trump said foreign students arriving through the Student and Exchange Visitor Programme would be barred from entering the U.S. He also warned that current international students at Harvard may face visa reviews and revocations.
National Security Cited
Trump defended the ban by saying it was necessary for “national security.” He claimed that Harvard refused to provide “enough information about alleged misconduct by some foreign students,” forcing the government to act.
Legal Setback Didn’t Stop New Order
Just a week earlier, a judge blocked Trump’s attempt to stop Harvard from admitting international students. Still, Trump returned with this sharper order aimed directly at the university.
