Jasprit Bumrah once again impressed the cricketing world. He delivered under pressure and guided Mumbai Indians to a 20-run win over Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 Eliminator. As expected, he played a crucial role in defending the total.
Mumbai Faced Pressure Early On
Initially, Mumbai Indians posted a strong total of 228. In response, Gujarat Titans started aggressively. Both Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar hit boundaries with ease. The chase looked dangerous for Mumbai.
However, Bumrah's third over turned the match. He bowled a deadly yorker that shattered Sundar’s stumps. The batter tried to play it but missed completely. That moment changed the momentum in Mumbai’s favor.
Bumrah Changed the Game
After Sundar’s dismissal, Gujarat’s chase lost steam. Mumbai bowlers tightened the grip. Eventually, they wrapped up the match with a solid win. Notably, Bumrah conceded only 27 runs in four overs.
Varun Aaron Praises Bumrah
Meanwhile, former India pacer Varun Aaron praised Bumrah on ESPNCricinfo’s ‘Timeout’. He said, “He's like an antidote, a vaccine that can cure any illness, which a bowling side can have. If you want wickets, he comes and gets you wickets. If you want to stop runs, he stops runs for you. Man, what a bowler.”
Bumrah Shows His Calmness
During the match, Gujarat gained momentum. Mumbai’s head coach Mahela Jayawardene appeared worried. He came to the boundary to speak to Bumrah. But surprisingly, Bumrah refused to take instructions.
Aaron described the moment, “And the belief he has in his ability. You have an international coach Mahela Jayawardene, who is obviously panicking because his bowlers have suddenly started to go to the cleaners, and he just turns around and is like 'just calm down, I'll do the job for you'. Comes in, runs in, gets hit for a six and then gets that ball.”
Bumrah Boosts Mumbai’s Campaign
Before Bumrah returned to action, Mumbai Indians struggled. They lost several matches. However, after his return, they looked like a different team. In fact, they went on to win six matches in a row.
So far, Bumrah has taken 18 wickets this season. Because of his efforts, Mumbai now advance to Qualifier 2. They will face Punjab Kings for a place in the final.
Experts Admire Bumrah’s Skill
Speaking about the Sundar dismissal, Aaron said, “For him to bowl from that angle is really difficult. It's easier for him to go wide to a left-hand batter but for him to actually target that leg stump of Washington Sundar.”
He added, “Washy was setting up for something wide or something in his arc, but that was just impossible to negotiate.”
