ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: USA Outclass Namibia by 31 Runs to Keep Super Eight Hopes Alive
United States defeated Namibia by 31 runs in the 26th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 after posting a strong total of 199/4.

USA outclassed Namibia by 31 runs in the 26th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. USA posted 199/4 after being asked to bat first, thanks to superb half-centuries from Monank Patel and Sanjay Krishnamurthi. Willem Pieter Myburgh (2/22 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Namibia. Gerhard Erasmus also picked up two wickets.

While chasing, Louren Steenkamp and Jan Frylinck gave Namibia a blazing start and added 54 runs for the first wicket in 5.2 overs before Schalkwyk dismissed Frylinck in the sixth over. After that, Namibia kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Although Louren Steenkamp scored a superb half-century, his efforts fell short, and Namibia lost the match by 31 runs.

With this win, USA now have four points from four matches. If Pakistan lose both of their remaining matches, then USA will have a chance to enter the Super Eight.

Monank sets the platform early

After choosing to bat first, USA got early momentum through captain Monank Patel. He survived a dropped catch before scoring and made Namibia pay for the mistake. Ruben Trumpelmann found Monank’s outside edge with his second valid delivery, but Dylan Leicher failed to hold on to the chance at point.

Monank quickly settled. He struck a flat six off JJ Smit and then attacked Trumpelmann and Smit again during the powerplay. In one over from Smit, he collected 19 runs with aggressive strokes, including a six over long-on and a crisp cover drive. USA raced to 65 without loss in the powerplay.

Monank reached his half-century in just 27 balls. During the innings, he also became the first USA batter to cross 1000 T20I runs. However, Namibia pulled things back after the strong start.

Namibia slow the scoring rate

Willem Myburgh led the fightback with tight bowling figures of 2 for 22. He dismissed Shayan Jahangir and later removed Monank with help from Smit at long-on. USA struggled for momentum during the middle overs and managed only 51 runs in eight overs.

Saiteja Mukkamalla also fell, leaving USA at 103 for 3. At that stage, Namibia had regained control and were restricting the scoring effectively.

Krishnamurthi explodes at the death

Sanjay Krishnamurthi then changed the game. He showed his power early by hitting a six off his third ball. After a brief period of caution, he launched a fierce assault alongside Milind Kumar.

Krishnamurthi smashed Bernard Scholtz into the stands and then attacked Trumpelmann in a costly over worth 26 runs. Namibia missed another key chance when Gerhard Erasmus dropped a running catch that could have ended Krishnamurthi’s innings on 32. Instead, he punished them with a sequence of 4-6-6-6, along with a no-ball, to reach his maiden T20I fifty in just 23 balls.

The pair added 87 runs in 47 deliveries. USA hammered 83 runs in the final six overs and finished just short of 200, a total that put Namibia under heavy pressure.

Shadley van Schalkwyk continued his strong tournament form and took 2 for 30, extending his lead among the competition’s top wicket-takers.

Steenkamp leads Namibia’s response

Namibia began their chase confidently. Louren Steenkamp struck boundaries from the outset and dominated an opening stand of 54 runs with Jan Frylinck in 32 balls. Ali Khan’s second over went for 20 runs as Steenkamp attacked through cover and midwicket.

Frylinck struggled to accelerate and eventually fell after hitting van Schalkwyk for six. Namibia ended the powerplay at 57 for 1 and kept pace with the required rate.

Steenkamp continued his aggressive approach. He added another solid partnership with Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and reached his half-century in 33 balls. It was his highest T20I score. However, he fell to Shubham Ranjane, handing the bowler his maiden T20I wicket.

Van Schalkwyk then dismissed captain Gerhard Erasmus for a slow 6 off 10 balls. As the required rate climbed to 15 runs per over, Namibia struggled to find big hits. USA’s seamers closed out the match and denied what would have been Namibia’s highest successful T20I chase.

With this win, USA completed their group-stage matches and strengthened their net run rate.

Player of the Match: Sanjay Krishnamurthi

USA secured their second group-stage win in Chennai with a strong all-round performance against Namibia. Half-centuries from Monank Patel and Sanjay Krishnamurthi powered the team to a big total, and disciplined bowling later sealed the result under the floodlights. The convincing margin also improved USA’s net run rate, which could prove decisive in the race for the Super Eights. Their qualification for the Super Eights now depends on the outcomes of the remaining Group A matches. Namibia, despite the loss, could still influence the final standings. Get ready for more action.
